MRAN Night Race Series Round 2, Primm, NV 06/21/08:
Round 2 of the MRAN Night Race Series was nearly a repeat of the first round. The team didnt win without some troubles, however.
Cody started the fast, 20 mile race course in the hunt for a 2nd straight night racing victory. He had a great start, finishing his first lap in just over 30 min and mere seconds behind the quad class leader.A lap later Cody came in to the first rider switch complaining of the front headlights being loose. The crew quickly applied some sophistcated tie downs( duct tape and a bungie cord) , fueled up the quad and Shaun was off for his first of 2 laps. His 2nd lap started even better as the first place team had to pull off due to some mechanical issues, putting the duo in first place. Shaun finished his 2nd lap with a hefty lead but, a lengthy pit stop due to repairs put the team back into 2nd. Cody fought hard on his next 2 laps though the headlight mounts now broke off the quad, even after the crew rewelded them in a previous pit stop. The solution was clear, Zip ties. Cody stopped mid lap and Zip tied the assembly down, securing it enough to finish the race. Shaun mounted the quad for the last lap in a firm 2nd place as the team had heard that the 1st place team had suffered engine failure. Shaun finished the race and ACE Racing their second, though not perfect, Pro ATV win.
MRAN Night Race Series Jean, NV 06/07/08:
The 1st round of the MRAN Night Racing Series was a good one for the ACE Racing Team as they scored a Pro ATV win and finishing an impressive 6th overall between the bikes and quads.
The race was nearly a flawless one as the duo was as much as 30 min. ahead of the 2nd place team. They were also the only ATV team to finish 8 laps in the timed event. Look for the team to take on the 2nd round of the series later this month in Primm, NV.
BITD Blue Water GP Parker, AZ 05/17/08:
The temps and the racing were hot as the ACE Racing team took on the Blue Water GP along the Colorado River front. Cody started the 8 lap race, nearly holeshoting the 9 mile course. He ended up 2nd to the first corner of the Gran Prix style mass start, just behind honda's Wayne Matlock sporting the new 700XX quad. Cody stayed with the leaders as Greg Stuart took over the lead early as the first lap completed.A lap later Shaun mounted the quad, the team still in a comfortable 3rd place with 6 laps to go. The top 3 stayed the same lap after lap, the team consistantly picking up time on the 2nd place riders. Shaun recieved the quad for the last 2 laps with nearly a minute lead on the 4th place team. The 7th lap went very well keeping the distance the same. The last lap didnt go as well. Just out of the pit area Shaun suffered a flat tire, and though he ran hard he was unable to fend off the charging 4th place team. The finish did however, secure a 3rd place in overall points for the season, with the Vegas to Reno coming up soon, stay tuned!
National Hare and Hound Johnson Valley, CA 04/27/08:
Johnson Valley was the back drop for the Viking's M/C National Hare and Hound Scrambles. The National event attracts alot of Motorcycles but quads are starting to increase in numbers every race. Cody has now gone 2 for 2 in District 37 races, scoring his
2nd consecutive Overall ATV win. Cody had a near flawless day, wrecking once and flipping the quad over,he then ran out of gas at the finish line. The two minor events could not wipe the smile off Cody's face, how could it he finished 7 minutes ahead of the 2nd place quad. Congrats Cody!
AMA District 37 Hare and Hound Lucern, CA 04/13/08:
Cody scored his
first overall win as a single rider at a recent District 37 desert race. Lucern Ca is used quite frequently for AMA desert racing and being a few short hours from Vegas, Cody ran this event to keep him "fresh" between BITD and WORCS races. The race went rather well for him, he finished as the overall quad winner, a full 6 min. ahead of the top 3 riders in points for the series. Great job Cody! He and teammate Shaun will be in action at the BlueWater GP in Parker, AZ!
Stateline Supermoto Primm, NV 04/05/08:
The Stateline Supermoto is one of Shaun's favorite races. He had a decent weekend though injuries plagued him throughout. He rode in four different classes: the Friday Team race, Pro, Pro-Am, and 14-24 riding hard in all four, despite physical and mechanical issues. The Friday Team Race is a crowd and racer favorite, pitting teams of two racers against other teams in four 15 min. sessions. At the end of a session the racer on the course "tags" his teammate for the next session. The duo scored a 5th place against the top racers at the event. In the Pro-Am Class he ran very well, passing when opportunities would allow in the cramped course, finishing just behind Cody. Shaun ended up with a DNF in the 14-24 final after being in the top 5 when his head gasket let go on his "Bling Quad".
It was a good weekend for the Ace Racing boys, scoring some good finishes and a podium spot to top it off. Cody had a great weekend. In the 14-24 Quad class Cody ran up front the entire race and nearly ended up second in a hard fought finish. In the Pro-Am race he again faired well leaving with a top 10 finish against some really fast pro racers!
